veneer going on a tooth

Veneers

Are you embarrassed to smile because of imperfect teeth? Porcelain veneers can cover these teeth, masking cosmetic issues.

Our practice provides high-quality porcelain veneers for anyone who lives in or around Lake Charles, DeQuincy, Kinder, and Sulphur, LA.

How can Dr. Jeffery Hennigan and his team revamp your smile with veneers?

The Benefits of Dental Veneers

Comprehensive Coverage

While dental bonding or teeth whitening can be great for touching up small blemishes, veneers allow our highly trained cosmetic dentists to completely transform your front-facing teeth.

Versatility

Veneers are ultra-thin, tooth-colored porcelain shells (about the thickness of a fingernail) that are carefully cemented to the surface of teeth. Every veneer we provide is custom-designed so these prosthetics can cover an incredibly wide range of cosmetic issues.

Natural-Looking Results

Our dentists plan every cosmetic procedure very carefully, ensuring that results are as lifelike as possible. In order to produce the most natural-looking smiles, Dr. Hennigan only works with a trusted dental laboratory that fabricates veneers from long-lasting, medical-grade porcelain.

How Do Veneers Work?

Do Porcelain Veneers Ruin Your Teeth?

/

No. Only a small amount of enamel needs to be removed to slide a porcelain veneer over a tooth. This does not affect the overall structure or integrity of a tooth or a patient's dental health.

Are You a Good Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

Many of our patients in Lake Charles, Sulphur, Kinder, and DeQuincy are great candidates for porcelain veneers. Candidates for this form of dentistry should:

Be in Good Oral Health

In general, candidates should be in good dental health and free of conditions like tooth decay or gum disease. If your teeth are severely decayed, you may need to seek an alternative restorative dentistry treatment. During your consultation, our doctors can examine your smile and recommend any procedures necessary to restore your candidacy.

Have Healthy Enamel

Placing a veneer also requires the removal of a small layer of enamel. If patients do not have enamel that can be safely removed, then their teeth cannot be prepared for this treatment. If you are found to not have sufficient enamel, common alternative treatments include dental bonding and dental crowns.

Does It Hurt to Get Veneers?

/

No. Thanks to modern anesthetic techniques, patients rarely experience pain when getting a custom set of veneers. Even though a little bit of tooth enamel is removed, placing a set of veneers is a non-invasive and virtually painless process.

How Much Do Veneers Cost?

The cost of veneers can vary from person to person. On average, an individual dental veneer at our practice costs between $1,100 and $1,400.

Because they are an elective service, veneers are not covered by insurance. However, we offer CareCredit® financing to help patients afford cosmetic dentistry.

To get an accurate estimate of what dental veneers will cost you, request a consultation with our dentists.

The Veneers Timeline

Porcelain veneer placement requires two trips to our Lake Charles, Kinder, Sulphur, or DeQuincy dental offices. Our patient-centered approach means that your treatments will never be rushed. During your appointments, here is what you can expect:
Veneers can transform your smile in two office visits.
Veneers can transform your smile in two office visits.

Consultation

The first step is to schedule a cosmetic dentistry appointment. During your consultation, one of our dentists will ask about your personal goals and explain the steps involved in the treatment.

Checkup

Your doctor will need to determine if you have sufficient enamel to support veneers. Once you are found to be a good candidate for porcelain veneers, your treatment can begin at that time or a later appointment.

Tooth Preparation

A small layer of enamel will need to be removed from your tooth to make room for the veneer. This step is known as “prepping” your tooth. Your dentist will first use local anesthesia to numb the tooth. If you are especially anxious about dentistry, we offer sedation options, as well. Once you are comfortable, your dentist will remove the thin layer of enamel. We will then take scans of your teeth and attach a temporary veneer that you will wear until your permanent prosthetic is ready.

Fabrication

We only work with the best dental labs for the fabrication of veneers. Your dentist will work closely with the technicians to ensure that your porcelain shells deliver the results you desire. The shells will be shade-matched to blend in with your natural teeth. The fabrication process typically takes a few weeks.

Placement

Once your veneers arrive at our office, a date will be set to have them placed. First, your dentist will ensure that the dental veneers meet your expectations. Then, the doctor will prepare each treated tooth with a special etching compound. Finally, your dentist will adhere the veneers to your teeth with durable dental cement.

Caring for Veneers

With proper care and maintenance, veneers can last for 15 years or more. Here are some tips for making sure your prosthetics last for as long as possible:

Use Non-Abrasive Toothpaste

You should avoid using any type of abrasive toothpaste, as it can affect the look of your veneers.

Refrain From Opening Packages With Your Teeth

Veneers are strong, but the shells should never be used to pry open or tear packages or other objects.

Maintain a Healthy Smile

Maintaining good oral hygiene habits can ensure that your veneers do not become loose or dislodged due to underlying decay. Twice-a-year visits to our dental practice can also ensure that your teeth remain healthy and your veneers remain strong.

Plan for the Future

The shells will eventually need to be replaced. When they do, Dr. Hennigan can perform the replacement procedure at our Lake Charles, Sulphur, Kinder, or DeQuincy dental practices.

Do Veneers Feel Like Real Teeth?

/

When properly fitted and placed, porcelain veneers should look and feel just like your natural teeth. The porcelain material is quite convincing. In fact, the natural-looking results are one of the reasons veneers are such a popular cosmetic dentistry procedure.

I love the hygienist and receptionist. Always so nice and understanding. Everyone hates going to the dentist but they make it feel positive instead of negative. Don’t care for the dentist but I enjoy all the staff.
