Dental Crowns

Broken and decayed teeth can cause dental pain and make it difficult to chew. They also leave you worrying about what may happen next.

A dental crown can solve those problems while restoring your tooth to its natural beauty and offering peace of mind

The experienced dentists at Lake Area Dentistry in Lake Charles, LA, can restore your smile with a dental crown in as little as one visit.

A Same-Day Solution

Traditional dental crowns take two appointments, but Lake Area Dentistry in the Lake Charles area uses advanced imaging and fabrication technology to get you in and out in one visit. Plus, you won't have to fuss with a temporary crown while you wait for your permanent dental restoration.
Using a sophisticated CEREC system, our dentists streamline your dental visit through the use of computer-aided design and manufacturing technology.

Our knowledge and proficiency with CEREC allow our dental team to create high-quality, metal-free restorations that are custom fit for your comfort and designed to blend seamlessly for a beautiful smile. This advanced technology is also used to craft veneers, inlays, and onlays to cover a wide range of needs you may have.

Dental Crowns Restore Teeth & More

If you have had extensive tooth decay, trauma, or a root canal, the dentists at Lake Area Dentistry in the Lake Charles area may recommend a dental crown.

Dental crowns help you avoid complications down the road, such as tooth extractions, and improve your smile by correcting cosmetic imperfections. Lake Area Dentistry offers high-quality restorations from natural-looking materials, such as porcelain or metal-free ceramics.

Repair Teeth

A dental crown protects a tooth that has suffered trauma or extensive decay. In addition to making the tooth stronger, the restoration also returns natural beauty to your smile.

Prevent Further Damage

By encasing a tooth with a protective shell, a crown prevents further decay and makes a fragile tooth stronger so it is less likely to suffer additional damage. That helps our patients avoid more extensive repairs in the future.

A Natural-Looking Solution

Lake Area Dentistry's dental crowns are made from high-quality materials, such as porcelain or ceramics, that can be carefully matched to the color of surrounding teeth.

Long-Lasting Results

Dental crowns are designed to withstand the normal biting forces of day-to-day life. With proper care, our patients can expect to enjoy their custom-designed restoration for up to a decade or more.

Fast Results

Our CEREC system is both digitally precise and fast. We prep, scan, and fit you with a natural-looking restoration in one convenient visit. You'll have one less thing to worry about in your busy schedule.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A crown is a protective casing for a tooth that has been damaged, either from trauma or major decay. The treatment fully encases the tooth above the gum line, offering both beauty and strength

The restoration improves a tooth's shape and size while also making a fragile tooth stronger. Crowns are also used to replace missing teeth by supporting bridges or topping dental implants.

The dental team at Lake Area Dentistry creates one-of-a-kind crowns custom fit to each patient so they are completely comfortable and look beautiful.

We use advanced CEREC technology to create a crown in just one visit. However, in some cases, we might recommend a traditional crown which is made over two visits. These restorations are made from porcelain, resin, metal, or porcelain-fused-to-metal to meet your specific needs.

Start with a Consultation We Carefully Explain Your Choices

At your consultation, your dentist will determine if a dental crown is the right solution for you. We pride ourselves on having your best interests at heart so our dentists carefully go over all your options and ensure you are comfortable with your choice.

We will also discuss the materials we use. Same-day CEREC restorations use high-quality ceramics that replicate the look and feel of a natural tooth. However, you can also choose from porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-metal, or other materials. Using these materials, you will typically require two visits and need a temporary crown. We will go over all your choices at a consultation

Preparation

Your dentist will prepare the tooth by numbing the area and shaping the tooth to prepare it for restoration. If you prefer, we also offer nitrous oxide sedation or mild oral sedation
ArtboardCreated with Sketch.

Scan

Using a small intraoral camera, your dentist will create a precise 3-D image of your tooth. This lets you skip the discomfort of impression trays to replicate the tooth.

Design

The tooth's scan is transmitted to the CEREC system, where the restoration is designed and milled using digitally precise technology.

Refine

The dentist will then place the finished crown in your mouth and make any final adjustments for optimal fit and appearance.

Place

The dentist then bonds the restoration in place, allowing you to walk out with a finished restoration. With CEREC, there is no need for a temporary crown.

Will Insurance Cover the Cost of a Dental Crown?

Crowns at Lake Area Dentistry average between $1,000-1,300. If your crown is needed to repair a damaged tooth and prevent future damage, that is typically considered medically necessary and most insurance plans cover at least part of the cost

We accept most major insurance plans. We also offer financing through CareCredit to make treatment as affordable as possible for our patients from Lake Charles, Dequincy, Sulphur, and surrounding communities.

How to Protect Your Dental Crown

Crowns are made of high-quality dental materials and are very durable but they are not indestructible. Over time, they will need to be replaced. To make them last, we recommend that you:

Watch What You Eat

You should avoid very hard foods, which can shorten the lifespan of the restoration. That includes chewing on ice. Also, be extra cautious with hard and sticky foods if you have a temporary crown, which is more easily dislodged than permanent crowns.

Brush Twice a Day and Floss Daily

Take extra care to clean where the gum meets the crowned tooth. You should avoid abrasive toothpaste, which can scratch porcelain. If you have a temporary crown, do not brush or floss vigorously around it or floss up and down around it. Remove the floss by pulling it out from the side.

Minimize Wear and Tear

People who grind their teeth should consider wearing a nightguard to protect the restoration and their teeth. You should also avoid habits like chewing on pens or your nails and opening packages with your teeth.
