Dental Crowns Restore Teeth & More
If you have had extensive tooth decay, trauma, or a root canal, the dentists at Lake Area Dentistry in the Lake Charles area may recommend a dental crown.
Dental crowns help you avoid complications down the road, such as tooth extractions, and improve your smile by correcting cosmetic imperfections. Lake Area Dentistry offers high-quality restorations from natural-looking materials, such as porcelain or metal-free ceramics.
A dental crown protects a tooth that has suffered trauma or extensive decay. In addition to making the tooth stronger, the restoration also returns natural beauty to your smile.
Prevent Further Damage
By encasing a tooth with a protective shell, a crown prevents further decay and makes a fragile tooth stronger so it is less likely to suffer additional damage. That helps our patients avoid more extensive repairs in the future.
A Natural-Looking Solution
Lake Area Dentistry's dental crowns are made from high-quality materials, such as porcelain or ceramics, that can be carefully matched to the color of surrounding teeth.
Dental crowns are designed to withstand the normal biting forces of day-to-day life. With proper care, our patients can expect to enjoy their custom-designed restoration for up to a decade or more.
Our CEREC system is both digitally precise and fast. We prep, scan, and fit you with a natural-looking restoration in one convenient visit. You'll have one less thing to worry about in your busy schedule.

What Is a Dental Crown?
A crown is a protective casing for a tooth that has been damaged, either from trauma or major decay. The treatment fully encases the tooth above the gum line, offering both beauty and strength.
The restoration improves a tooth's shape and size while also making a fragile tooth stronger. Crowns are also used to replace missing teeth by supporting bridges or topping dental implants.
The dental team at Lake Area Dentistry creates one-of-a-kind crowns custom fit to each patient so they are completely comfortable and look beautiful.
We use advanced CEREC technology to create a crown in just one visit. However, in some cases, we might recommend a traditional crown which is made over two visits. These restorations are made from porcelain, resin, metal, or porcelain-fused-to-metal to meet your specific needs.
Start with a Consultation We Carefully Explain Your Choices
At your consultation, your dentist will determine if a dental crown is the right solution for you. We pride ourselves on having your best interests at heart so our dentists carefully go over all your options and ensure you are comfortable with your choice.
We will also discuss the materials we use. Same-day CEREC restorations use high-quality ceramics that replicate the look and feel of a natural tooth. However, you can also choose from porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-metal, or other materials. Using these materials, you will typically require two visits and need a temporary crown. We will go over all your choices at a consultation.
A Beautiful CEREC Crown in 1 Day
A tool is only as good as the user. Our team has extensive CEREC knowledge and proficiency.
Will Insurance Cover the Cost of a Dental Crown?
Crowns at Lake Area Dentistry average between $1,000-1,300. If your crown is needed to repair a damaged tooth and prevent future damage, that is typically considered medically necessary and most insurance plans cover at least part of the cost.
We accept most major insurance plans. We also offer financing through CareCredit to make treatment as affordable as possible for our patients from Lake Charles, Dequincy, Sulphur, and surrounding communities.
How to Protect Your Dental Crown
Watch What You Eat
You should avoid very hard foods, which can shorten the lifespan of the restoration. That includes chewing on ice. Also, be extra cautious with hard and sticky foods if you have a temporary crown, which is more easily dislodged than permanent crowns.
Brush Twice a Day and Floss Daily
Take extra care to clean where the gum meets the crowned tooth. You should avoid abrasive toothpaste, which can scratch porcelain. If you have a temporary crown, do not brush or floss vigorously around it or floss up and down around it. Remove the floss by pulling it out from the side.
Minimize Wear and Tear
People who grind their teeth should consider wearing a nightguard to protect the restoration and their teeth. You should also avoid habits like chewing on pens or your nails and opening packages with your teeth.
