Dental Crowns

Broken and decayed teeth can cause dental pain and make chewing difficult. They also leave you worrying about what may happen next.

A dental crown can solve those problems while restoring your tooth and offering you peace of mind.

The experienced dentists at Lake Area Dentistry in Lake Charles, LA, can use CEREC® technology to create your dental crown in one visit.

A Transformation With Dental Crowns

Without a crown, a broken tooth can suffer further damage and is at risk for decay or infection. Thanks to modern tooth-colored materials, a crown can restore the look of a tooth in addition to its chewing function.

What Is CEREC?

/

CEREC allows our knowledgeable and proficient dental team to create high-quality, metal-free crowns that are customized for your comfort in just one visit. Milled in-house from medical-grade porcelain, CEREC crowns are designed to blend seamlessly with existing teeth for a beautiful smile. This advanced technology is also used to craft veneers, inlays, and onlays.

A Same-Day Dental Crown Solution

Traditional dental crowns normally take two appointments, but Lake Area Dentistry in the Lake Charles area uses advanced imaging and same-day fabrication technology to get you in and out in one visit. Plus, you won't have to fuss with a temporary crown while you wait for your permanent dental restoration.
Using the sophisticated CEREC system, our dentists streamline your dental visit through the use of computer-aided design and manufacturing technology. CEREC brings the craftsmanship of a dental lab into the dental practice, allowing dentists to create restorations on-site.

The whole staff is kind, warm, and helpful! I usually see Dr. Hennigan, and he is always gentle & thorough. He also always takes a moment to ask how life's been/what’s new—which I find very welcoming!

What Is a Dental Crown?

A crown protects a tooth that has been undergone a root canal or received other treatment for trauma or decay. The crown completely covers the portion of the tooth above the gum line, offering both beauty and strength.

The restoration improves a tooth's shape and size while also making a fragile tooth stronger. This helps you avoid more extensive repairs in the future. With proper care, you can expect to enjoy your customized tooth restoration for up to a decade or more.

Dental crowns are also used to replace missing teeth by supporting bridges or topping dental implants.

The dental team at Lake Area Dentistry creates one-of-a-kind crowns customized to each patient so they are completely comfortable and look beautiful. Our crowns are made from high-quality materials, such as porcelain or ceramic, that can be carefully matched to the color of surrounding teeth.

Although our Lake Charles-area dental practice features advanced CEREC technology to create a crown in just one visit, in some cases, we might recommend a traditional crown that is placed over two visits. These restorations are made from porcelain, resin, metal, or porcelain-fused-to-metal to meet your specific needs.

An implant-supported crown can replace a single missing tooth. It's an excellent option to consider when filling a tooth gap, and an effective alternative to a dental bridge.

How Much Do Crowns Cost?

/

Crowns at Lake Area Dentistry average between $1,000-$1,300 per tooth. The final price of treatment can vary since the cost of restoring a tooth or performing a root canal differs from placing a dental implant for single-tooth replacement. During your visit, we can provide a price quote based on the work you need to have done.

Will Insurance Cover Dental Crowns?

If your crown is needed to repair a damaged tooth, complete a root canal, or prevent future damage to a tooth, that is typically considered medically necessary. This means that most insurance plans cover at least part of the cost.

Lake Area Dentistry accepts most major insurance plans. Insurance plans and policies vary, so we can work with your insurance provider directly to verify that crowns are covered.

Financing Options

Lake Area Dentistry also offers financing through CareCredit to make treatment as affordable as possible for our patients from Lake Charles, DeQuincy, Carlyss, Kinder, Moss Bluff and surrounding communities.

CareCredit splits the total cost of treatment into affordable monthly payments. These installments allow patients to get the treatment they need without experiencing an undue financial burden.

How Long Do Crowns Last?

/

On average, a crown lasts about 10 years before it needs to be replaced. This is due to normal wear and tear. However, it's possible to extend the lifespan of a crown by practicing good oral hygiene and attending regular dental visits.

Your dentist will prepare the tooth by numbing the area and shaping the tooth to prepare it for restoration. If you prefer, we also offer nitrous oxide sedation or mild oral sedation

Refine

The dentist will place the finished crown in your mouth and make any final adjustments for optimal fit and appearance.

Place

The dentist bonds the restoration in place, allowing you to walk out with a finished restoration. With CEREC, there is no need for a temporary crown.

How to Protect Your Dental Crown

Crowns are made of high-quality dental materials, meaning they are very durable. However, they are not indestructible. Over time, they will need to be replaced. To make them last, we recommend that patients:

Watch What You Eat

You should avoid very hard foods, which can shorten the lifespan of the restoration. That includes chewing on ice. Also, be extra cautious with hard and sticky foods if you have a temporary crown, which is more easily dislodged than a permanent crown.

Brush Twice a Day and Floss Daily

Take extra care to clean where the gum meets the crowned tooth. You should avoid abrasive toothpaste, which can scratch porcelain. Don't brush vigorously around a temporary crown. Floss downward and pull the floss out from front to back so you don't snag your temporary crown and cause it to come loose.

Minimize Wear and Tear

If you grind your teeth, you should consider wearing a nightguard to protect the restoration and your teeth. You should also avoid habits like chewing on pens or your nails and opening packages with your teeth.

Dr. Ardoin and his whole staff go above and beyond to do a great job! I know I am in good hands when I am there. They always ask if I'm having any issues or mouth pain and work until they resolve the issue/pain. Ginger is so sweet, it is like talking to a long-time friend when I see her to get my teeth cleaned. She is a great asset to the team! Over the last year, Ginger even checks my blood pressure before any work is started. Wonderful dental work, fantastic employees...you just cannot go wrong by calling on Dr. Ardoin's office for your dental needs.

It has been more years than I can count since my last dentist appointment. The last three, with three different dentist, did not go well. I did not have any confidence in them and did not go back to them. Two broken teeth last week changed my situation to a have to. I called Lake Area Dentistry last Thursday and was given an appointment for the following Monday. I was so satisfied with Dr. Price, he saved my two teeth, I scheduled my next appointment for Friday to get more much needed work done. Thank you Dr. Price and Lake Area Dentistry! Good people!
